Goodbye Facebook

Sadly, I knew the day would come for this post. After several years of Facebook the time has come to bail out. This decision has not come without much thought and consideration.

Let me begin by saying that for the most part, I enjoyed the early Facebook approach of social networking primarily for the purpose of keeping up with family and friends far and wide. I never played “Farmville” or the various other games available on FB. Perhaps if I was retired, I would feel better able to justify spending time in that way. Maybe its just a personal thing but I never liked using FB to share photos. It just felt too sloppy or frivolous compared to the Picasa Web Album approach. Now, since this post is about my personal decision to say goodbye to Facebook, I am REALLY GLAD I stuck with Picasa Web Albums!

You may be wondering what has caused me to come to this decision. Actually, I have been leaning toward leaving FB for quite some time but two recent incidents have pushed me to the point that the time is now. I was looking through a FB friend’s info and saw he liked a few facebook pages. I clicked on one of those to see what it was about. There it was, a full fledged pornographic image. I doubt my FB friend even knew it was there and it might not be anymore since the owner of the page may have removed it by now. The second incident is the recent news report of a major spam attack. Click> FB SPAM If a friend’s FB account gets hijacked by a spammer, keep in mind that you don’t really have to click on anything to see the images. They will show in their normal status update.

To sum this up, I have basically come to the conclusion that the benefits of Facebook no longer outweigh the risk. Personally speaking, the risk factor has become too great.

I plan to close down my FB account possibly as early as tomorrow. For now, I will do my “social networking” on Google+. A number of friends are already there. If you don’t already use Google+ it would be great to see you there too!

In spite of the recent market crash, (a whopping 630 points today!) I came home to this wonderful sight! My dear wife had done a super job baking bread. I got to thinking about the promises in God’s Word. One of my favorite verses for such a time as this!….
Psalm 37:25
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Then I asked myself the question “am I righteous enough to qualify for the promise found in this verse?” The only thing that qualifies me, or anyone else for that matter, is the blood of Christ applied to my sin! I have never regretted saying yes to Jesus Christ knocking at my heart’s door as a teenager. He is Lord of All and His return represents another promise that WILL COME TRUE! Maybe soon.

Music Beta by Google

The cloud revolution continues….

I had been hearing about the new music system by Google called “Music Beta”. I requested an invitation to sign up for it a few weeks ago. A few days ago I received my invitation to join and of course I did! All I can say is wow. At last a great home and solution for all of your music. Never worry about losing music to a crashed hard drive or MP3 player. Never need to re-purchase music due to a scratched or lost CD. Or a CD you loaned to someone and never got it back. The really great thing about the service is that it will play on any device with an internet connection. Just sign in to your Music Beta account on your smartphone or any PC with a broadband connection and all your albums appear and are ready to play. You can even create custom playlists. Once again Google comes through with yet another awesome, technological wonder!

Keynesian Vs. Austrian Economics

There are two common approaches to economic theory: Keynesian and Austrian. What we are experiencing in our current economic crisis is the failure of the Keynesian approach. The foundation of our economy did not start out using the Keynesian model but was more structured after the Austrian approach. Any debt our country incurred (especially the early to mid 1900′s) was primarily used to become more productive as in building factories which made us a goods producing nation. We made most of the world’s goods and exported vast quantities to other countries and quickly became the world’s largest creditor nation. Unfortunately, we are only an empty shell of what we used to be. We have chased countless businesses out of the country due to excessive regulation and taxation. The past several decades we have gone into debt to keep Wall Street afloat and to blow various economic bubbles in an attempt to keep a failing economy from imploding. Some of these bubbles included the “Dot.com”, “Real estate/ sub-prime”, and finally, the worst bubble of all, the “bail-out/stimulus/quantitative easing” bubble. This bubble is destroying our currency.

In Larry Burkett’s book, “The Coming Economic Earthquake” written in the early to mid 90′s, he expressed a major concern that I believe is unfolding right now. He describes “monetizing the national debt” which has been given the clever name “QE1″ and “QE2″ I obtained permission by the publisher to post the following excerpt from the book. HD Video Sharing and Viewing

One of the things that is changing in technology is how videos are viewed. The old way involved using DVD’s. Putting footage on a DVD is soon going to be a thing of the past and that includes home created videos. Our niece got married in Alabama a month ago and she wanted the video I captured from the wedding using my Canon HG20 high def. camcorder. I used windows live movie maker to create the video using footage as well as a few snapshots. The final video file size ended up being over 5 gigabytes since I used the high quality widescreen ratio! This will not fit on a standard blank DVD. The other problem was the fact that time was critical. She needed it for a reception they were having while in Ohio. I ended up getting her to download it over the internet using an FTP program. I set up a user ID and password that allowed her to access and download it from my NAS (network attached storage) box here at home to the PC she was using in Ohio. I think it took all night to download! Download speeds depend on my upload speed and her download speed. She did tell me today that the file successfully came through. I considered privately uploading the video to youtube but viewing it that way would require a fast and available internet connection. Someday I predict there will be a nationwide, blazing fast, wireless, broadband connection. This will make uploading, sharing, and viewing, high def. videos much simpler.

Powerful Scripture Needed Now!

In light of a couple facebook posts and comments from some folks I care about, I have posted the following passage from the Word of the Living God. It speaks for itself. Please, please, pay attention to it….

1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

17Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Hope and Change

Been doing a lot of thinking lately. We heard a slogan or phrase in our world about 18 months ago that included the words “hope” and “change”. How is that “hope and change” working out for you? Nearly every business associate I talk to describes it as being “real bad” out there and they doubt it will get better any time soon. One of my electrical inspectors said they are down by 70% and he is concerned he will likely get laid off.

Seems to be very little hope out there but plenty of change. Unfortunately, that change has been for the worse. I am concerned the change we will see in the future of this messed up world will continue to be for the worse, much worse.

I know this may have been a gloomy post but let me brighten it up with the REAL hope and change that is sure to come. Real Hope is found in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Real Change will come for those who have acknowledged Him as Lord and Savior. That Change is in the form of sins forgiven, a new heart, and ultimately a new, incorruptible, glorious body! Lets also not forget the new heaven and new earth that is also coming. As the scripture states: Old things are passed away, behold all things become new. My friends, that is what I call Hope and Change!

Easter is right around the corner. Can anyone say Alleluia?!

One Year Bible.

I must admit to something that will likely surprise some of you. I will be 45 this June and have never read the Bible through! I would imagine sister Barbara’s jaw would hit the floor if she knew that fact. One of the reasons, and I know its no excuse, is the fact that I hate to read. I have no desire to grab even a popular novel and sit down to read for hours like some folks seem to do. If I were to estimate how many books I have read in my life it would probably not be over 30 and most of them were during my school years.

I have recently found something that has helped in my quest to read the Bible through this year. Its called the “One Year Bible Online-Mobile”. Yes, I bookmarked it on my Droid and have found it very helpful and am keeping on schedule to read the Bible through this year!
